A journey of journalism student

By NL Baloyi

My  name is Nkateko Laurette Baloyi,  I am 23 years  old doing my first in journalism at "tut" Tswane University of Technology.

I grew up in Mogogelo village  located  at Hammansraal in Pretoria. I am a first  born child  of four siblings and i was raised  by my grandparents , as I was growing  up I enjoyed  watching  news TV and also I would  read my grandfather's  newspaper  whenever  he bought  it known  as daily sun.

I was interested  in reading  most than playing  outside  with other kids , I really  enjoyed  reading  and I told myself  that one day I want to see myself  reading  news on TV.  I worked hard at my primary  school then went to my high  school  where I completed  my matric at New Eersterus secondary  , I chose history  streams at high school  because  it had a lot  of reading  and talks about how  things  are happening in the country  also most about  the history  of the world.

In 2023 I did a research  about  a journey of becoming  a TV news presenter,  radio presenter ,a news writer  also a course or career  you must take and that led me to Journalism.  I decided  to apply  at Tswane University of Technology  for a year 2024 for journalism  because  thats the institution  that offers  that course, by the grace  of God I was called  for an interview  and thats where  I knew that my dreams  are coming  true . I worked hard  to prepare  for an interview  because  I didn't  want to fail and it is what I want the most  , well I did pass the interview  and I was then accepted  at Tswane University of Technology  for journalism.

I was so excited  that finally  am going  to purse my dream , I came at tut  in 2nd of February 2024 because  I wanted  to go to first  year  orientations so that  I do not get  lost . I was nervous  because I do not know  anyone  and am far away from home, but when time goes by I made new friends  it was not that hard for me because  am not  a shy person  I always  want to know new thing and people .

Sometimes  is not easy  I won't lie  it is depressing  and stressful  because  varsity  life is not like high school  things are more different  , because  here at varsity  your own your own  you must not lose focus  and you must not forget what you came to do before  if you do you will go home without your qualifications.

Even though  is not  easy  but I know  that I chose a right  course because it is what I wanted and the lecturer are making  things easier  for us to understand  , being at university  it is very  nice and it is a greatest opportunity.
